The Fenix HL55 headlamp offers four brightness levels plus 900-lumen burst mode and 150-hour runtime from one 18650 battery or two CR123A batteries.  Neutral white light means superior definition and penetration in high-humidity environments.  A 380 foot/116-meter carry distance reaches farther while the side switch on the head is all you need for ON/OFF, output selection, and burst.  With all-metal housing and ANSI rated, the HL55 matches all-season backcountry and cave exploration.

Great general lighting

Love the headlamp for general field lighting. I should have ordered the helmet band clips too. Was thinking of using for trail riding at night but I found that a helmet mount of my PD35 was better because of the spot lighting.

A perfect headlamp. It's typical Fenix, rugged and durable. Very solid, it's definitely built to last. The several brightness settings range from a low that doesn't destroy your night vision, to a super bright that makes it seem like daytime, with several settings in-between so you can find just enough light for the task at hand. It's got a good balance between flood and spot, which allows you to see well ahead of you but also lights up the surrounding area well. I use mine for fishing a lot. I like to be on the water just before daylight which means I'm travelling through thick woods in the dark with a load of gear, which makes a headlamp a necessity. I've gone through several of the cheap plastic headlamps, either getting them wet or having the plastic case get cracked and ruining them. With the HL55 those problems are solved. I love mine, and I highly recommend it!

Pros: well built, bright, good runtime, fairly compact Cons: need option of a diffuser and the plastic peice that sits against helmet could be better for such a well constructed light. I use these strickly for caving. They are robust, bright, seem good in wet, muddy enviroments and take a beating. I currently run a Hl55 and a HP12 combined on my petzl ecrin helmet and I am pleased with this from my old duo setup of petzl myo xp’s. My biggest problem with fenix lights is no diffuser! This option is needed when doing any camera work to even out the light. I think fenix is making a sweet product and hope they continue to build a good product that lasts which is hard to find these days! I think maybe they could build a light more suited for caving! If your on the fence just buy one, you wont regret it!

Sturdy construction and works well.

Had this light out in a few caves now and it has held up to the abuse nicely, and battery life is great for caving if you use the appropriate brightness level when needed. All and all very happy with it, would recommend it.
